About The Medium
See how AI is changing the way people watch, play, and create media — before everyone else does.
Welcome to The Medium Substack. I am Andrew Rosen, a former executive-turned-analyst. Puck News recently described me as “the digital media savant”.
I started my executive career in 2005 when Google’s Search Engine Optimization and direct-to-consumer became the new paradigms. Inside the building, I learned what the smartest executives were missing or struggling to understand.
I then cut my teeth as a media and technology analyst during the streaming era, including writing the Medium Shift column for The Information.
Now, with over 20 years of experience in digital media, I track how generative AI is a fundamentally new medium—not just history repeating itself.
Who is The Medium for?
The Medium is for anyone who wants to see how AI is reimagining the relationship between technology, audiences, and creativity — and stay ahead of the curve.
Every essay explains what’s happening behind the scenes—the changes that are invisible to most people but will shape the future of media.
I write for investors and executives who:
Feel overwhelmed by the rapid pace of technological change
Struggle to assess how AI is reshaping content creation, distribution, and monetization
Fear missing out on emerging opportunities
Whether you are making multi-million dollar investments in startups, banking on strategic partnerships with platforms or legacy media companies or simply want to build, you need to see the hidden patterns shaping what audiences watch, share, and create.
The Medium is your guide to understanding how AI is transforming media—so you can see the change before everyone else does.
Why is it called “The Medium”?
20th-century media theorist Marshall McLuhan argued that every new medium carries its own rules, constraints, and possibilities. Technology does not just deliver content—it shapes how content is created, shared, and experienced.
The Medium is about revealing these invisible forces at work: How AI and other emerging technologies are rewriting the relationships between creators, audiences, and content itself.
The name also nods to my Medium Shift column.
The Medium is an independent, reader-supported publication drawing on 20 years of corporate, entrepreneurial and analytical experience in digital media.
Join over 20,000 investors, executives and entrepreneurs who receive The Medium in their inbox.
